FAQs

About the TV

Q - Is the 3D on this TV Full HD (1080P)?
A - No, the Panasonic ET5 is a Passive TV, so it will not show 3D images at Full HD (1920x1080).
Blu Ray: Full HD (1920 x 1080) will be displayed at: 1920 x 540
Sky 3D: Transmits a 1920 x 540 resolution side by side - which when converted to 3D is a resolution of 960 x 540.

Q - Can I use my cinema 3D glasses with this TV?
A - Yes, you can use them, but I found there to be a slightly darker brown tint to the picture, than with the supplied Panasonic glasses.

Q - Any green blobs (as there were on the Panasonic 2011 TV's)?
A - I've not noticed any yet - although some owners on forums have pointed out some banding and bleeding issues.

About 3D

Q - What are the differences between Passive and Active? (in brief!)
A - Passive 3D - shows 540 lines (aka 50% of the image) for each half of the image - and the brain combines this into a 540 line image.  The fact that the image is displayed at the same time means Passive 3D is more relaxing to watch (similar to how it currently is in the cinema) and not too noticeable on smaller screens.
Active Shutter 3D - shows 1080 lines for the left eye and then 1080 lines for the right eye - and the speed of refresh rate tricks the brain into seeing a 1080 line image (i.e. a Full HD picture).
Active 3D TV's are prone to "flickering" - which is due to the left eye and right eye being turned "off" to view the appropriate image on the screen.)

Q - What should I go for?
Go with Passive 3D if you…

  • Are buying a small TV (42" or less)
  • Will be watching 3D animation movies with your family
  • Are planning on watching sports with mates
Go with Active Shutter 3D if you…

  • Are buying a large TV (46" and above)
  • Are a film fan and want to see films in the highest possible resolution
  • Are planning on watching sports on your own
